CEO shortlisted for HR Excellence Award
15 May 2009

David Evans, CEO and founder of performance improvement company Grass Roots, has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Most People Centric CEO’ in HR Magazine’s 2009 Excellence Awards.

The category is a new one for the awards and aims to recognise the CEO or MD who has delivered great results by putting people at the top of the agenda. The editorial team has identified five leaders, who not only see people as vital to the performance and sustainability of their businesses, but also take a leading role in engaging them.

David Evans finds himself in good company among the nominees, who include Justin King – Sainsbury’s, Paul Walsh, Diageo and Ronan Dunne of O2, a key client of Grass Roots.

Andy Lister is Managing Director at Grass Roots and has overall responsibility for People within Grass Roots Group. He feels the recognition for his boss is much deserved:

"David Evans has built a global business around the simple philosophy that people make the difference. It's a philosophy he continues to practise every day, whether it is inspiring new starters on induction days or celebrating long servers in front of their colleagues on five, ten and more year anniversaries - such events becoming increasingly commonplace.”

"He has a great talent for getting people in the right places and a belief in giving people the freedom to pursue their 'big idea', for which I am personally very grateful."

Evans was awarded an MBE last year for services in corporate social responsibility. Earlier this year, Grass Roots UK was listed in the Sunday Times top 100 Best Companies to work for, for the third year in succession.

The HR Excellence Awards will be presented at a dinner in London on June 30
